It’s the Amisan Chimney, which is said to be the most exquisite out of palace chimneys. During the reign of King Sejong, Angbuilgu was widely distributed as a hemispherical sundial. Its name means “Furnace-like Sundial which looks toward the sky,” and it had the ability to show time though sun shadows. |

Another thing I remember is how I was startled by its size. I asked what it was, and it was for the kings. You don't understand things well when you're young, but I still have that memory. The scientific logic used in them and the beauty they display is incredible. I became interested in them because Seoul was building things including a new government office, and I work in culture and production, so I got involved in a performance venue near Hangang River. We live in a global age, and buildings look the same. with no creativity, so I had an idea. I thought that since we had run out of creative ideas, we needed to use something from the past creatively. I looked at national treasures overnight. No. 1, No. 2, No. 3, No. 4... Then I saw something. I hadn't noticed it before. It was so pretty. This is it! I looked it up and it was a chimney. I thought it was a typo. A chimney? I direct performances, so I thought I was creative, but this presented a new shock. Oh! It comes into view. That is the exact shot. That. That is it. It's different from how it was in the garden. When you see it through here... It won't do to have the queen looking at the chimney and it being ugly. She needs to think, "Ah, that's pretty." When I come to Gyeongbokgung Palace, I look at the details. Every brick, every door, and every lattice. The details are exquisite. NAR> When such details were noticed, things that had never been seen before or acknowledge before came into view. Gyeongbokgung Palace was not simply a king’s residence, but an area for art, care and science. Sub> Angbuilgu Hemispherical Sundial (Treasure No. 845) The sundial is divided into 24 hours. Starting from 11pm at night. Time goes around in units of two hours, 12 units form the 12-year cycle. That's why 'Jeongoh,' which is noon, is during the day. It's 11AM in the morning. 'Oh' begins from 11AM. From 11AM to 1PM. That's what noon is! 'Oh' in the middle is 12pm. And 'Jajeong,' which is midnight, is between 11PM and 1AM. 'Ja' is at 1AM. 'Jajeong' is in the middle. Right? It was used for performances. So it's the same when holding performances. There's water and there's trees. The elegance for performances exists there. It offers comfort and excitement to the people. I thought about making a grand 20,000-seat performance venue suiting human nature. I use cultural heritage to look at the future through the past. It's not dead. It's dynamic. This cultural heritage doesn't move at the moment, but I can acquire my dynamic future world through their existence. I acquire it through history and heritage.
