| 내용 | 제주의 동쪽 끝에 가면 거대하고 독특한 형태의 화산체가 있다. 해돋이 명소로도 유명한 성산일출봉. 제주도의 다른 오름들과 다르게 물속에서 분출된 마그마가 차가운 바닷물과 만나 고운 화산재가 층을 이루며 쌓이면서 당시의 화산활동의 흔적이 고스란히 남아 있다. 거대한 분화구와 깎아내린 듯한 절벽, 근사한 바다 풍경이 어우러진 성산 일출봉의 이면에는 과거 일제강점기 전쟁을 위한 비밀기지, 또 4.3사건의 현장이라는 슬픈 역사도 가지고 있다. 아픔을 가진 이들을 위로하듯 매일 찬란하게 떠오르는 일출을 맞으며 모두의 안녕을 빌어본다. There is a uniquely shaped giant volcanic edifice at the eastern end of Jeju-do. The Seongsan Ilchulbong which is well known as a sunrise attraction is the very ‘it.’ Contrary to other Oreums (or volcanic cones) in Jeju-do, the Seongsan Ilchulbong was formed by the encounter of magma gushed from the water with the cold seawater, layered the fine volcanic ash. Traces of volcanic activity remain intact even up to date. Behind the Seongsan Ilchubong with a giant crater, a sheer precipice and a wonderful seascape in harmony, there are both a secret base for the war during the period of Japanese occupation and the 4/3 Incident Site, showing a sad history. Watching the sun rising splendidly each day, as if it were consoling those with pain, I pray for peace and good health of everyone. |
