대본 정보 | 자막> 니래이션> A man is staring at the ground and looking through the grass thickets. We look to see what he's searching for. He was searching for the remains of the bongsudae hidden between the overgrown weeds and soil. Whenever the day is nice out, Mr. Jung Jin-he, the bongsudae guardian, goes all over the country in search for it. Just like today, he's looking for a Uhdalsan bongsudae in his home town near the East Sea. 말자막> I Just want people to have interest in the bonsudae. 제목자막> Jung Jin-he, a shepherd boy that became a guardian of the bongsudae 나래이션> Let's go and meet Mr. Jung Jin-he, the Uhdalsan bongsudae guardian from the East Sea. Mr. Jung Jin-he heads out in search of a bongsudae no matter how far he has to travel. 말자막> Jung Jin-he East Sea Uhdalsan bongsudae guardian We`ll arrive at the bongsudae entrance in about 3 and a half hours. 나래이션> The distance from Mr. Jung's house to the East Sea is over 300km. One needs to have a lot of passion to do something like this. The East Sea is Mr. Jung's hometown where he spent his childhood. He came up this road before when he was young to feed the cows. The shepherd boy now an adult, comes up the road as the cultural assets guardian. A long time ago, thousands of bongsudaes were located throughout the entire country, but now there are only a few remaining. 장소자막> Uhdalsan bongsudae Gangwon-do Donghae-si Daejin-dong The Uhdalsan in the East Sea region is a place where the bongsudae is well preserved and still retains its circular shape. To make the smoke from the torchlight visible from afar, the bongsudae sits on a place where all sides wide open. At night, the light from the fire is used, and during the day smoke is used to make a signal from the bongsudae. This was a system implemented during the Shilla Dynasty for military purposes and was used until the Joseon Dynasty. Mr. Jung pulls up his sleeves as soon as he arrives at the bongsudae and starts to clean. Compared to the early days of working as a bongsudae guardian, a major cleaning just involves pulling out overgrown weeds and picking up the trash people left behind around the bongsudae. There is a lack of understanding about the cultural heritage. 말자막> I don`t know understand how we carried this. I would carry it down if I could but I don`t have the strength, and we can`t put it in here. 말자막> Jung Jin-he East Sea Uhdalsan bongsudae guardian When I first came here after I became a guardian.... wow I didn`t know what to do. I didn`t know where to start so it was worrying. One time I came here and just cut the top and came back a week later. When I came back and cut the rest even back there. After cutting it, the shape started to form. 나래이션> Mr. Jung showed his earnestness in serving as the bongsudae guardian, and in 2002, the Donghae-si began the bongsudae restoration process. 말자막> It`s not rocks from this area, it was moved here. The transported rocks were used for the restoration, the rocks that were here originally is over there now. 말자막> Was the dolmuji here since the Shilla Dynasty? 말자막> Yes it was. There are no big rocks here. 나래이션> Only small rocks are left. There is a hidden story on why Mr. Jung traveled this far to carry out his duties as a guardian. 말자막> Ready~ go~ and the rocks rolled down really well. The slope makes it go down and when it hits something they fly down. If flies and falls down, we rolled it to see It go down. And the boulder over there 말자막> We would run over there. 말자막> We went there to look. 나래이션> As a child along with his friends, they played a competition by rolling the big stones down on the side of the hill, while feeding the cows. 말자막> Jung Jin-he East Sea Ugdalsan bongsudae guardian It`s unfortunate. It the rocks were still here it wouldn`t look like an altar. It`ll look like a real bonghadae. It would still look like the bonghadae used to be... it`s unfortunate. 나래이션> There was something else the shepherd boys played with. It was the porcelain bowls that were scattered around the bongsudae. 말자막> More than a half of it should be left, so do we need to leave it as it is? If the shepherds were still here... 나래이션> It was mistakes made when they didn't know any better. 말자막> they would be throwing the rocks. To hit that. 나래이션> The bowls were used by the bongsudae keepers in the old days. At the time, even the adults didn't realize that this was an important cultural heritage. 말자막> After dating the pottery, they said it was from before the Joseon era. That means it`s a really old pottery. I brought home one of the pottery that was still circular and my mother and father asked me why I brought it home, there could be a ghost in it. 나래이션> To pay back his debt, Mr. Jung became a Uhdalsan bongsudae guardian after realizing how precious they really were. 말자막> Jung Jin-he East Sea Uhdalsan bongsudae guardian It`s really significant to see a bongsudae that is still preserved in the circular state. 나래이션> The remains of a moat can be seen, which prevented the fire from spreading to nearby mountains. This is a characteristic of the bongsudaes only found in this region. 말자막> Jung Jin-he East Sea Uhdalsan bongsudae guardian I wish they would that information in here. That information is missing. That it`s a unique bongsudae... 나래이션> Only a rough explanation is on the Uhdalsan bongsudae information board. It's sad for Mr. Jung to see that there's nothing explaining the key features of the bongsudae. 글자막> Under normal circumstance just one, if the enemy is seen far off then two, and if the enemy is near the border, three, if they cross over then four... 나래이션> There is a place Mr. Jung always stops by after he finishes his duties as a guardian. It's the house he grew up in where his mother still lives. He moved to Seoul after becoming an adult, and since he started working as a cultural assets guardian ten years ago, he returned home whenever he could. His mother is just happy to see her son more frequently. 인물자막> Cho Bok-nyuh Jung Jing-he`s mother 나래이션> Mr. Jung is the oldest of 9 brothers and sisters. For Mr. Jung, it's twice the joy when he could take care of his aging mother while protecting the cultural heritage. The dinner table is filled with seafood, as the family is together for the first time in a long while. Seeing her son never forget about his hometown and working as a guardian, protecting their hometown cultural heritage more than anything, she is so proud. 말자막> Aren`t you glad your son can come back once in a while? 말자막> Yes. Of course. 나래이션> His sisters all seem to be interested in his work, as it's something to be proud of. 말자막> Look this is the Bongsudae. 말자막> Is this the book you wrote? Shepherd boy? 나래이션> While protecting the East Sea Uhdalsan bongsudae, 장소자막> Samlangsansung Incheon Ganghwa-gun 장소자막> Gangmangsan bongsudae Gyeongsangnam-do Geoje-si 장소자막> Jujeongsan bongsudae Chungcheongbuk-do Chungju-si 나래이션> he grew curious of the circular shape of the bongsudae and traveled to 60 different bongsudae sites all across the country. 장소자막> Geumsan bongsudae Gyeongsangnam-do Namhae-gun 장소자막> Oknyuhbong bongsudae Gyeongsangnam-do Geoje-si 나래이션> He recorded all of its size and construction methods, and took pictures for file keeping. However, his guardian duties has its starting point at the bongsudae in the East Sea Uhdalsan. The sunrise on the Uhdalsan bongsudae is always marvelous. Mr. Jung is working hard in hopes to share this great spectacle with others. 말자막> I have to introduce this place to other people. It`s the best sunrise. 말자막> When will I see it again? Atter today... 말자막> It`s a fantastic place. Really. 나래이션> Although it's not well-known yet, his hope is for the people to realize how valuable the cultural heritage truly is. 말자막> Jung Jin-he East Sea Uhdalsan bongsudae guardian It`s really unfortunate that are so mant great cultural assets are in Korea and many people don`t come to see it... You`ll realize the next time you come to visit, that our culturla assets are in great places. 나래이션> Mr. Jung Jin-he, a 56 year old shepherd boy. The day is not too far away when the rest of the country gives love and attention to the Uhdalsan bongsudae he protects. |
