Because Haenyeo go into the deep water with no equipments, they are also called as Jamnyeo. What Haenyeo take in the water are seafoods such as sea urchin They dive dozens of times to fill the net The reason that these women start diving in the water is a poverty. 말자막> I sent my children to school and we lived by selling abalones Even in the past, I lived by selling abalones 글자막> The harvests make their family`s life. Sagye-ri fishing village societies Andeok-myeon Seogwipo-si, Jeju-do Haenyeo are gathered for the group work Before they go to sea, they are gathered and talk about the work amount They are experienced Haenyeo 말자막> Because now we are about to be 70`s our eyes become poor in sight So we have to wipe them(swimming goggles) out 글자막> After young people leave the Haenyeo are getting old, Haenyeo in Jeju become on the verge of being endangered Haenyeo are divided into sanggun, junggun and hagun according to their diving skills An average Haenyeo can hold her breath for a minuite or less Haenyeo in sanggun can hold their breath for over two minuites and they can go down 10m below the sea level Haenyeo work according to their skill Haenyeo in sanggun don`t work in the area where Haenyeo in hagun work 말자막> Haenyeo(a woman diver) is a typical activity that only females do it, and by this activity The leadership and relationship are getting stronger This case shows humankind`s unique life style 글자막> They choose the way of coexistence Haenyeo who have lived in the sea near Jeju island for a long period of time |
